It covers the 18th Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations, which came into force in July 2018 and includes the April 2026 Amendment 4 (2026) to BS7671:2018.

Course Description

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is primarily aimed at practicing electricians with relevant experience and other allied professionals e.g. surveyors, consultants and other trades needing to update and enhance their understanding of IET Wiring Regulations.

It is also suitable for anyone wishing to demonstrate an understanding of the IET 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671). This qualification is approved for candidates aged 16 or above.

What does the qualification cover?

The IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) are the definitive standards for the electrical industry in respect of safe use and operation of electrical equipment and systems. They set requirements and operating criteria for the UK and correspond to EC standards and are recognised by the British Standards Institute as a British Standard (BS 7671). It is intended to ensure that individuals are conversant with the format, content and application of the Requirements for Electrical Installations.

The course will give candidates an overview of the key changes from April 2026 in the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations including Amendment 4 from April 2026 which becomes the mandatory standard 6 months later. This significant update aligns UK regulations with emerging technologies and international CENELEC/IEC standards.  Key changes include:

• New Chapter: Safety requirements for stationery secondary battery installations
• ICT Systems: Updated functional earthing and bonding requirements
• Power over Ethernet (PoE): New dedicated section for safe design
• Medical Locations: Major overhaul of Section 710, including new testing schedules
• Integration: Amended 3:2024 is now fully embedded into the main document.

Assessment: Candidates have to successfully complete the multiple choice online exam (60 questions, duration 2 hours). Pass mark 60%, online exam re-sit fee (if required) = £60
